Three- Generations Fishing

"There is no other relationship quite like that which can and should exist between a boy and his dad...
It can be one of the most nurturing, joyful relationships in life... ...
one that can have a profound impact on who boys become and also on who dads become."

--M. Russell Ballard, Fathers and Sons: A Remarkable Relationship

Last week we kicked off the summer by traveling to East Texas to spend the week with my parents and the hubby's in our hometown.  It's always so nice to escape the city life and spend some time in this beautiful part of the state. Everything was so pretty while we were there...the trees and grass were so green and lush and I enjoyed photographing the colorful flowers that are in bloom this time of  year.

One of the main things on the hubby's to-do list while we were visiting our family was take Noah fishing. My in-laws have a beautiful place on a lake just outside of town. For us, it feels like a respite from the world--we often feel so trapped living in the city--especially since both the hubby and I grew up out in the country.  So we were so excited when we pulled into my in-laws driveway late that evening.  After getting a much needed good night of sleep--the  men-folk got up early the next morning to go fishing.  My mother-in-law was so kind to offer to watch Taylor and Gavin for a bit while I walked down to the lake to take some photos of the men-folk fishing....

When I got close to the pier--I heard Noah belly laughing as a fish tugged on his line.  I could tell the hubby was IN HEAVEN.  He's been anxiously awaiting this--- getting to throw a rod-n-reel.  I'm so glad I decided to lug my big-girl camera along for this trip so I could capture the three of them together fishing and chit-chatting about life...

Pop kept teasing Noah every time his line would get stuck that a shark must be down in the water biting his lure.  The look on Noah's face was priceless--he was convinced that somehow a shark got into the lake. Pop loves to tease the grandkids like that.  :-)

They had a very successful day of fishing...Noah caught 19 fish!!  We couldn't have asked for better weather--it was a beautiful, sunny day-- perfect day to go fishing.  They fished most of that morning-- came in for lunch --rested a bit-- and then helped Pop cut firewood and clear some brush with his tractor.  Later that evening, they headed back down to the lake and took the boat out to fish some more.

It was really special for me to stand back and observe the three of them together---laughing and talking about life as they fished.  The hubby has so many fond memories of going fishing with his Dad as a little boy ( he talks of this often ) and now what a treat it is for him to see Noah developing a similar love for fishing as he did all those years ago.

More blog posts and pics to come from our visit with our family in East Texas....

  1. What a fantastic trip (despite the hard time getting back home). The pictures remind me of ones I took of our girls fishing with their daddy and grandpa off their dock in MI when the girls were little.
