Christmas Church Celebration.

2010-12-19 Ward Christmas Party 20103

This weekend, we attended our ward church Christmas party. We were happy to see that it was well attended and the food and entertainment were great! Since the Hubby is serving in our ward as the Bishop, he was busy conducting and overseeing the event most of the night. Little Man and I enjoyed socializing with our friends and well, as you can imagine, I did my fair share of chasing our little guy around the church. He gets just a little too stimulated at events such as this. Something our ward has become quite used to these days since he is such an active 4 year old! Argh!!!

A sweet lady in our ward, who used to own a dance studio, for several months now she has been offering ***FREE*** dance classes to children and adults in our stake. She is truly a sweetheart for doing this. This wonderful act of kindness has allowed many young children (who otherwise would not have the opportunity) to learn the basics of ballet, tap and jazz. For our Christmas party, a few little girls from her ballet class performed a piece from the Nutcracker as part of the entertainment. The little ballerinas were simply precious!

And then...some of the older ones even enjoyed getting to sit on Santa's lap---(between you and me...I think they were just doing it to get their big bag of candy!) Santa whispered in my ear later that night that the big boys wore his poor knee completely out! ;-)

Little Man L-O-V-E-D getting to see Santa fact, after he had his turn to sit on his lap, he kept breaking in line to come back to sit again. The ever patient elves had to keep reminding him he already had his turn.

Poor Santa was quite the trooper...he was having a time with his hot suit and even hotter beard in this sweltering South Texas weather!

We are sure proud of him though...he brought smiles to so many children this night--including this little fella...

What a great time we had. It was a special time for us to get to socialize with our ward family for the holidays. Little Man ran, played, laughed and giggled through the entire event.

By the time we made it home, he was worn slap out. We had just enough time to take a quick bath, throw on some pajamas, eat a few bites of goldfish crackers and then....he passed out on the couch.

The Hubby shared a special spiritual message for the congregation that touched my heart. I'd like to share a portion of it with you...

"Christmas is almost upon us. Christmas is indeed a time for giving. Someone once said he couldn’t think of what to give for Christmas. The next day in the mail he received an anonymous list which read:

Give to your enemy forgiveness,
To your opponent tolerance,
To your friend your heart,
To all men charity, for the hands that help
are holier than lips that pray,
To every child a good example,
and to yourself—respect.

All of us need to follow the example of the Savior in giving these kinds of gifts.

Never did the Savior give in expectation of receiving. He gave freely and lovingly, and His gifts were of inestimable value. He gave eyes to the blind, ears to the deaf, and legs to the lame; cleanliness to the unclean, wholeness to the infirm, and breath to the lifeless. His gifts were opportunity to the downtrodden, freedom to the oppressed, forgiveness to the repentant, hope to the despairing, and light in the darkness. He gave us His love, His service, and His life. And most important, He gave us and all mortals resurrection, salvation, and eternal life. We should strive to give as He gave. To give of oneself is a holy gift. We give as a remembrance of all the Savior has given.

From Christina Rossetti we read:

What can I give Him,
Poor as I am?
If I were a shepherd
I would give Him a lamb,
If I were a Wise Man,
I would do my part,—
But what I can I give Him,
Give my heart.

This Christmas, mend a quarrel. Seek out a forgotten friend. Dismiss suspicion and replace it with trust. Write a letter. Give a soft answer. Encourage youth. Manifest your loyalty in word and deed. Keep a promise. Forgo a grudge. Forgive an enemy. Apologize. Try to understand. Examine your demands on others. Think first of someone else. Be kind. Be gentle. Laugh a little more. Express your gratitude. Welcome a stranger. Gladden the heart of a child. Take pleasure in the beauty and wonder of the earth. Speak your love and then speak it again..."

Many Blessings,
