Spontaneous getaway...Day 1

San Antonio 6.25.2010 048

The hubby had a deposition in San Antonio on Friday and he invited us to to join him for a spontaneous family getaway! And what an amazing time we had. Little man spent much of the trip running, laughing, smiling...it was a parent's joy to see him having such fun. He especially loved getting so much "quality" mommy and daddy time!! We were reminded of how important it is to spend meaningful time together as a family.

San Antonio is a beautiful city located in the northern part of South Texas. It is the most visited city in Texas. The downtown area is beautiful with its lush landscaping around the famous Riverwalk, historic buildings and eye catching urban life. There are a plethora of things to do in this city, so we truly just scratched the surface with this quick getaway of ours.

Friday we spent the day making our way around the downtown area and on the Riverwalk. Wheeeew-weee...it was a hot one that day!

Little man L-O-V-E-D all the waterfalls and the river...he was so tempted to jump in which made his mama super stressed at times!

As we walked the Riverwalk, we saw beautiful trees, flowers, birds, and fish. And then of course, all along the way, there are shops galore and great restaurants to stop in and get a bite to eat.

You can also take a guided boat tour of the river which is a great way to learn more about this city's history and how the river came about. We took a guided boat tour on Day 2, so those pics will be coming in my next post.

The Rainforest Cafe was a hit!!! I don't know who had more fun, little man or us and the food was so tasty!

He was mesmerized by the gorillas, but a little concerned that they were going to"get him", so he kept a tight hold on his Daddy and Mommy when we walked by them.

Mommy imitating the Gorillas...little man thought it was super funny and mommy looked pretty dorky!

Our hotel, Emily Morgan, was just across the street from the Alamo which made for a convenient walk for us.

The historic and famous Alamo....

I learned that when you go to the Alamo with a 3 year old...you get one of the fastest tours ever...we walked in the front door and 3 seconds later we were leaving out the back door!

Little man saw all he needed to see in a matter of seconds and was ready to move on to the next form of entertainment.

He had so much fun pushing all the buttons in the elevator at our hotel...

Pics of us just hangin' out in the hotel room trying to cool off...the little man actually took some of these all by himself. Now that was a first and quite a treat for him for mommy to let him use her nice camera!

After cooling off in our hotel room and a taking quick nap, we headed back out later that evening to take Little man on one of the downtown horse and carriage rides.

He so enjoyed this!

And then we hopped in our car and drove around the Greater San Antonio area--this is at one the many beautiful golf courses we looked at, The Dominion Country Club. Such a wonderful course and area of San Antonio to visit.

Day 2 of our spontaneous getaway coming in my next post...

  3. GREAT pictures! For some reason the top lines of all your posts for me are illegible though. I don't know what the deal is and I am wondering of others have that problem. It's just the top line. It's like there are two sentences all together and I can't read it. Just thought I'd point that out in case it's something that you were not aware of. I don't think (not positive) that it would be from my computer, because others' blogs are not like this. Who knows. Have a fabulous rest of your summer! --Kelly
