More weekend getaway...

San Antonio 6.25.2010 315

More glimpses from our 2nd day in San Antonio and the drive home on Sunday (it is about a 4 hour drive for us to San Antonio). Overall it was a beautiful weekend. The sunny skies and great city made for some special and happy moments for us!

Little man loved every. little. bitty. itsy--second of our weekend getaway. It was one of those experiences where you laugh and smile so much that your cheeks hurt. The hubby and I were even talking on the drive home how touched we were by our little guy and his happiness level on this getaway...he seemed to savor every minute--he especially enjoyed having our undivided attention the entire trip. Both the hubby and I made an extra effort to not be on our cell phones--talking, blogging or checking Facebook. We even discussed and made a pact as husband and wife that we need to set a goal to do getaways like this more often as a family. And on a smaller scale, try to do more things such as having picnics in our backyard or a walk by the lake feeding the ducks...essentially, we want to spend more quality time together as a family--enjoying each others company without the distractions of the world interfering. We left this weekend getaway with a renewed quest and commitment to live in the moment more...

Which then stirred my thoughts and reminded me of one of my very favorite quotes {thank you Anna Quindlen}. A quote that touched my heart many years ago as a new mommy and inspired me to start this here little blog. A reminder of why I continue to keep this living scrapbook as a way to document our family's memories...

"...the biggest mistake I made is the one that most of us make while doing this. I did not live in the moment enough. This is particularly clear now that the moment is gone, captured only in photographs. There is one picture of the three on them sitting in the grass on a quilt in the shadow of the swing set on a summer day, ages 6, 4, and 1. And I wish I could remember what we ate, and what we talked about, and how they sounded, and how they looked when they slept that night. I wish I had not been in a hurry to get on to the next things: dinner, bath, book, bed. I wish I had treasured the doing a little more and the getting it done a little less."
